The Shame in Shame

I’ve had a couple of relationships go belly up in recent years and been flummoxed by these vanishings. Stupid things were said, and surprisingly it wasn’t me either time. I reached out to them in both instances to help move us past the conflict. However, instead of resolution, they stopped answering.

I tried to re-engage, only to realize that the problem wasn’t something I should do or say, but that they couldn’t engage because they didn’t want to face their shame. That’s what I represented, a memory of something stupid they had done. Rather than deal with the issue, it was easier to cancel me.

This has been a revelation for me not just in my personal relationships, but in today’s politics. It is impossible for Trump to take any of his horrible nonsense back. He cannot reflect or reconsider. Neither he nor his supporters cannot face what they have done. It’s easier just to head off the cliff then face their shame.

A Little More Epic Fury, Valued Customer?

‘Kind’ regards. ‘Best’ as well. But what are regards if not kind and best? Are vitriolic regards a thing? ‘Most’ is needed too, as sincerely isn’t enough, respectfully neither. This sycophant language – or is it language sycophancy? – spouts from all corners. We’re all ‘valued’ customers, appreciated too. Until the card is declined. Then we have a epic problem.

Which brings us to Trump’s need to work on his messaging for world domination. Here’s a draft for the next bombing: Most Valued Citizens, Our mission to make the world like I want it has a weensy bit to go. Stay safe and stay good. Your patience is kindly appreciated.

Donald Flynt – Burdens to Bear

Donald Trump has been a heavy burden on my psyche over the past couple of years – the fury, the vitriol, and most of all, the deceit. I try to laugh it off but then I think it’s better to drink and forget and do that instead. It was during one such purge that it occurred to me how Trump isn’t unique, that he is the same as so many nameless other millions, to say nothing of the named ones too – Sean Hannity, Larry Flynt, the Koch brothers et al. – and they’re what we’re stuck with if we’re to perpetrate this fantasy of free speech. And, while we should throw these idiots in jail for their hate speech, the reality is that most people suck, and another racist/misogynistic schmuck will just take his place. Which is another good reason to drink.
